About

Born and raised near Cleveland, Ohio, Day Watson held a strong captivation for art and travel from youth. In 2018, Day’s passion for creative self-expression merged with their love for exploration as they ventured south to attend Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida. There, surrounded by new landscapes and vibrant cultures, Day found themself compelled to create art daily, laying the foundation for what would become a transformative artistic journey.

After attending Eckerd College, Day realized they wanted to major in art above all else and transferred to the University of Miami in 2020. Further expanding their horizons, Day embarked on a transformative year abroad at Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan, during 2022-2023. Living in Tokyo for a year ignited an even deeper passion in Day for documenting their travel experiences through various forms of artistic expression. Day continues to travel in their daily life, and has also solo traveled to places as far as China & Thailand, and to popular cities such as New York, Miami, Chicago, and more.

Watajii was originally created as an art brand by Day in 2019 to establish their artwork as a multidisciplinary artist. Day uses the combination of fashion, cinematography, photography, graphic design, painting, and drawing to illustrate and express the feelings and realizations that inspire them along their traveling journeys. Mainly inspired by travel, spirituality, nature, and introspection, Day’s artistic style adopts a vibrant, surreal, and abstract perspective filled with colorful imagery and a psychedelic feel. Shapeless forms, spirals, and striking details are also common in Watajii and allow more depth and flow to Watajii’s unique and distinctive art style.

Watajii is much more than simply an art brand—it stands as a testament to the boundless possibilities that can unfold when passion and faith meet dedication. Day’s aspiration for Watajii is simple yet profound—to inspire and unveil the attainability of one’s dreams and ideal life through unwavering commitment to one's genuine passions.
